LIS Commissioner General Says President Boakai’s Tenure is Lofa’s Best Opportunity to Develop

VOINJAMA, Lofa – Liberia Immigration Service Commissioner General Steve Zargo has called for Lofians to take advantage of having someone from Lofa as president of Liberia. The former Lofa senator said it would be a missed opportunity for Lofa to remain underdeveloped after six years under President Joseph Boakai.

Zargo said this was the first time in the county’s 59 years of existence to produce a president. He also pointed out that the sheer number of Lofians being appointed to senior government positions means this is a unique opportunity for Lofa to experience growth and progress.

He urged government officials and stakeholders to prioritize development initiatives in Lofa, emphasizing the need for infrastructure improvements, especially road connectivity.

“Lofa county has been challenged with [deplorable] roads, and the issue of the road has been paramount, and absolutely, it is a great start of the government’s effort to rehabilitate roads,” he said.

“When the roads are completed, sons and daughters will come back to Lofa and transform it in the same form like other counties in Liberia, so it is about time for Lofa’s boys to do their best, be it Kissi, Kpelle, Mandingo, Lorma, Gbandi, and the Mende to get back to Lofa and start doing some investments, because no one will do it for us better than ourselves and again it is a unique opportunity for Lofa County.”

He revealed his own preparedness to invest in the county despite now being out of the Senate.

With the number of appointments made so far, General Services Agency Director General Galakpai Kortimai said Lofians will make up to around 60 to 70 percent.

Kortimai, who also hails from Lofa, promised to push for unity among all Lofians in government.

“Some of them may not know Lofa, but they are from Lofa County, and that is why I will ensure that right after all of the appointments, we will all come together to know each other and to work for our county and Liberia at large,” he said.

Other Lofians serving in senior government positions include Internal Affairs Minister Francis Nyumalin; Commerce Minister Amin Modad; Education Minister Jarso Maley Jallah; J. Cole Bangalu, Minister of Youth and Sports; and Liberia Revenue Authority’s Commissioner General Dorbor Jallah.
