MONROVIA, Montserrado – The race for the 2019 LFA Orange First Division has come to an end with the LPRC Oilers winning the championship with two games remaining to end the league season.
The Oil Boys won the league on Sunday, June 9 after grabbing a 3-0 win over relegation-threatened Keitrace Football Club. Terry Sackor scored a hattrick to help the Oil Boys defeat Keitrace FC.
The Oilers have put an end to LISCR Football Club’s and Barrack Young Controllers’ four-year league dominance to win their sixth league title. LPRC Oilers won the league without conceding a defeat, with 15 wins and five draws in their 20 league games played.
They are on the path of equaling LISCR Football Club’s record of playing the entire league without conceding a defeat. However, the Oilers will have to avoid defeat in their final two games against Nimba United and Watanga FC if they are to match LISCR FC’s record that was set during the 2016-17 first division season. During that run, the Shipping Boys finished the league season by going undefeated in their 22 games to win the league title.
Meanwhile, FC Fassell’s relegation to the second division has been confirmed following their narrow defeat to LISCR Football Club. Edward Selebah’s first goal for LISCR FC helped the Shipping Boys defeat the Soccer Missionaries 1-0 at the Doris Williams Stadium in Buchanan.
Fassell returns to the second division five years after being promoted to the top tier of Liberian football. The Soccer Missionaries booked their place in the top flight of Liberian football in 2014 after being crown champions of the second division.
