KAKATA, Margibi – Margibi County Assistant Superintendent for Development Victoria Duncan has announced her resignation. Duncan made the disclosure on January 28 during a student chapel service at the Cuttington Junior College in Kakata.
She told the gathering that she is now the new Stipendiary Magistrate of the Kakata Magisterial court.
“I am no longer Assistant Superintendent for Development, I am now the new Judge of the Kakata Magisterial court,†she said while correcting a student who introduced her to the occasion.
Duncan was appointed as Assistant Superintendent for Development along with Superintendent John Buway by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf on March 19, 2012. She was defeated as a representative candidate for the 3rd district of Margibi during the 2011 elections.
While presiding over the development office of Margibi, Duncan earned a law degree from the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law at the University of Liberia and was later admitted in into the Liberia Bar Association.
Prior to the elections, she also resigned her position as Superintendent of the Monrovia Consolidated School System. She has also served the Ministry of Education as Margibi County Education Officer after leaving a teaching position with Firestone Liberia.
Buway has not officially commented on the resignation, but Duncan has begun official duty as the new Stipendiary Magistrate.
Some citizens of the county have praised Duncan for the bold step.
Emmanuel Tarr, a resident of Gibi District in Margibi described the report as welcoming. “It is a welcoming news and we must commend her,†he said.
According to him, Duncan will be remembered in history for not holding on to power despite the opportunity to serve in other areas of public service.
Jacqueline Thomas, a student of the Booker Washington Institute in Kakata, commended the Former Assistant Superintendent for her contribution to development in Margibi.
Thomas said, like other public servants, Duncan has rendered her contributions to the developmental needs of the county and it was now an opportunity for another citizen to serve in the position.
Peter Sackie, another native of Margibi residing in Monrovia, wants the President to take immediate action in replacing the former Assistant Superintendent.
“It will be appropriate if the President appoints another qualified citizen to fill the vacancy,†he said.
