MONROVIA, Montserrado – In a shocking turn of events, Liberia Football Association first division’s defending champions Barrack Young Controller have suffered a narrow 3-2 loss to Mighty Barrolle at home.
Barrolle made their return to the top league on a very disappointing note with three defeats in their first three matches to Monrovia Club Breweries, LPRC Oilers, and the newly promoted side Jubilee.
They were quickly seen as the league’s beating dog, along with Invisible Eleven, which also received three defeats in their first three matches.
BYC had won three out of their three matches and were considered the favorite ahead of the encounter with Barrolle. However, it was the opposite result after the sound of the final whistle at the Blue Field.
With both sides starting on a high note, the host was first to find the back of the net through Prince Jetoh, who scored in the 26th minute. Although BYC enjoyed the possession after getting the lead, the score became level seven minutes later through Lorenzo Wilkins.
However, BYC went to the first half break with a 2-1 lead after scoring in the stoppage time of the first half. The Go Blue Boys got their second through gifted left winger David Tweh.
The second half was an all Mighty Barrolle affair with two goals scored to grab their much-needed win. Julius Woto made the score 2-2 just six minutes into the second half, as the match took a major twist. The match turned to be difficult one for BYC in the 62nd minute when Barrolle took a surprise 3-2 lead through Moses Cooper’s strike.
With 28 minutes to the end of the match, there were hopes of BYC getting both an equalizer and a winner to turn things around in front of home supporters. Their efforts to get a point from the match were fruitless, and they suffered their first defeat of the season.
The win elevated Barrolle from the bottom of the table to eighth place with three points after four games, while BYC dropped second on the table with 9 points, three points behind league leaders, Fassell.
