BUCHANAN, Grand Bassa – After several boxes of medical supplies were confiscated at a security checkpoint in Grand Bassa, authorities have finally charged four suspects.
Investigation by a joint security team established that the supplies were stolen from the St. Francis Hospital in River Cess, contrary to an initial statement given by a suspect, Chukwu Sompon, that they originated from Sinoe.
In River Cess, security personnel have arrested the hospital’s pharmacist, Johnette Cooper, who colluded with Sompon. She was sent to Buchanan for further investigation.
Furthermore, two security guards on duty at the hospital at the time the supplies were stolen have been arrested. They are Francis Blouyou and Shells Myers. The two guards were charged with theft of property they are being held in River Cess.
The date of trial for the arrested persons has not yet been disclosed.
A police officer who was allegedly escorting the drugs along with Sompon, George F. Karnga, was turned over to the Professional Standards Division of the Liberia National Police for investigation. That investigation is said to have been completed and a report is expected to be submitted to Inspector General Patrick Sudue for further actions.
Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle transporting the individuals and the drugs is still under investigation.
