SANNIQUELLIE, Nimba – Twenty students attending the Nimba County Community College in Sanniquellie from electoral district eight will benefit from scholarships provided by Representative Larry P. Younquoi.
The scholarships are meant for the 2015/2016 academic year. Younquoi made the announcement at a forum for district eight students of NCCC over the weekend.
“I came today with some colleagues and office staff to see how we can find a common ground,†Younquoi said. “Today we are committing ourselves to providing financial assistance for at least 20 district eight students for this year at the Nimba County Community College.â€
Younquoi called on the scholarship beneficiaries to be appreciative and make the best of the opportunity. He provided half of the fees and promised to complete the full payment within two weeks.
Harrison Kaybay, who represented the district eight students at the college, commended the lawmaker for his gesture. However, he appealed to Younquoi to increase his support to include more students.
He said that the number of students from the district had “increased to over 100 and as such we are asking your honorable office to please increase your assistance to us at NCCC in the future.â€
Kaybay used the occasion to call on other well-meaning personalities of the district to come to the aid of the students.
He added that the “majority of the students in NCCC and other universities and colleges around the country do not have the parental support to go through higher educations, but rather depend on assistances from people to carry them through.â€
This not the first time that Younquoi has provided students with financial aid. Students at various universities and colleges around the country often benefit from his financial assistance every school year. For this academic 2015/2016 school year, a few students at the University of Liberia and the Liberia Christian Community College received at least US$1,500 each to assist with their tuition and fees.
