Despite not making coach Pitso Mosimane’s starting eleven, South African-based Anthony Snothi Laffor continues to prove his worth to Mamelodi Sundowns.
The 30-year-old attacker came off the bench to replace Themba Zwane in the 64th minute, scoring during stoppage time to hand the Sundowns a 3-2 victory over Ajax Cape Town. The goal was Laffor’s first of the season after four league games, and it propelled the Sundowns to seventh place with seven points after five games.
Nearby, striker Kpah Sherman made his first start for the Black Aces in South Africa’s Premier Soccer League and helped them get all three points away at Golden Arrow. Though Sherman failed to register his name on the scoresheet, his assist in Zambian forward Collins Mbesuma’s first goal was vital in the much-needed win.
The former striker for Tanzania’s Yanga was shown a yellow card in the 39th minutes before being substituted at the 64th minute.
The Aces’ victory kept their excellent start to the season on course as they moved up to third place on the table with 11 points. They are now leveled on points with second place Platinum Stars and just a point behind league leaders Bidvest Wits.
In Sweden, both Dioh Williams and Sam Johnson had a bitter midweek after they fell on the losing side.
Dioh, who scored all two goals last weekend to give his club Gefle IF three points, was unable to get a goal as his side went down 3-0 to Hammarby. The defeat keeps Gefle at seventh place on the table with 32 points.
Sam Johnson’s DjurgÃ¥rden continues to experience defeat as they were beaten 4-2 by Norrköping in their third straight loss. Despite the setback, DjurgÃ¥rden remains sixth on the table with 40 points.
