The Azerbaijani Premier League giant commonly known as Gabala FK has signed Liberian international midfielder Theo Lewis Weeks on a season loan from his Cypriot first division club.
According to a press release on the club’s official website, Gabala head coach Roman Hryhorchuk said the club has been following Weeks over the years. He feels that Weeks has the qualities the team has been looking for.
Weeks expressed his joy in joining Gabala and further stated that he’s preparing for the upcoming challenge.
“It is a big club with great ambitions,†Weeks said. “Now, it is a new country, new club, and a new challenge. I pray that God helps me go through. It won’t be easy but I’m well prepared for the task ahead. There’s a lot of pressure playing for a big club, and it won’t be strange to me. I’ve had the experience in Turkey and Portugal. All I’m thinking about is to focus and keep strong to help my new club achieve their goals for the upcoming league season.â€
Weeks previously played for Watanga Football Club in Liberia before he moved to Turkey in 2008 where he played for four different clubs. In 2013, Weeks moved to the Portuguese Premier-Liga club, CS Maritimo where he made 35 appearances and scored five times in two seasons.
After his contract with Maritimo expired, Weeks who has made 18 appearances for the Liberia National Team, the Lone Star, moved to the Cypriot first division after signing a three-year deal with Ermis Aradippou. At Ermis, Weeks made a total of 27 appearances, scoring two goals in two league seasons.
