BUCHANAN, Grand Bassa – Jurors at the Second Judicial Circuit Court in Upper Buchanan, Grand Bassa have brought down a guilty verdict on two co-defendants in an armed robbery case that claimed one person life.
After a 15-day hearing, Shadrach Gee was found guilty of armed robbery and murder. Janjay Mamie Taykar, the mother of one of the alleged robbers who is still at large (Francis Willie), was found guilty of criminal facilitation and criminal mischief.
The decision was reached on Saturday, March 2, 2019, at the Second Judicial Circuit Court before Judge Joe S. Barkon. A final ruling is expected to be released later this week. County Attorney Pato Jabba represented the state in the case and the defendants were represented by a public defender, Cllr. Paul Jarvan.
The case is related to a November 8, 2018, armed robbery where criminals shot dead a resident of Lloydsville Township, in Grand Bassa’s first district.
Junior Lloyd was killed while attempting to rescue one of his neighbors, Moses Joe, who had been attacked by criminals at about 2:00 a.m.
In addition to the murder, the robbers had also stolen close to L$500,000 (US$3,227) plus 56 phones. Both Gee and Taykar were arrested separately in Buchanan.
Gee was arrested with L$13,000 (US$84) while Taykar was arrested with the motorcycle used during the robbery, along with several other motorcycles.
It is unclear how the sentencing will proceed but Gee, who was convicted of a first-degree felony, is expected to face several years in prison.
