Lower Bong Magistrate Confirms Readiness for Elections

TOTOTA, Bong – In the buildup to election day, the National Elections Commission’s Lower Bong magistrate boast of a high level of security prescribed to safe guide the elections process in Central Liberia.

Barsee Kpangbai told The Bush Chicken that each of the 235 polling places in Lower Bong will be protected by two security personnel for the smooth flow of the process.

According to Kpangbai, Lower Bong hosts 95,646 registered voters and comprises several electoral districts.

“As you can see, our office is fully secured; we have [the Police Support Unit] assigned here to protect the materials that are on the ground. And apart from the security, we expect less invalid votes with the level of civic and voter education we have conducted and the ongoing training for [poll workers].”

The magistrate further said there are 29 voter educators in the field along with several gender mobilizers to sensitize mostly first-time voters to minimize the relatively large number of invalid votes experienced in past elections.

“We have trained 19 electoral supervisors who also have trained 235 voter identification officers and residing officers,” he added.

According to him, there is an ongoing training for magisterial staff to make sure that they are well equipped to conduct the elections.
