Liberian forward Anthony Snoti Laffor’s time with the Mamelodi Sundowns appears to be coming to an end after the club’s head coach Pitso Mosamane told the former Lone Star captain he could leave the club this summer if he wants.
Despite admitting that Laffor is still useful to the club and is still a goal scorer, Mosamane said the club won’t stand in Laffor’s way if he decides to seek a new challenge elsewhere.
Speaking to South African online media, The Citizen, the 53-years-old coach said, “I don’t know if he will be leaving. Laffor is with us. Laffor has got the magic. Laffor has got goals. We don’t chase him away. If he wants to leave, he can leave. If he wants to stay, he can stay.â€
Since his move to the Sundowns in 2013, Laffor has played a key role in helping the club achieve three ABSA Premiership titles, the CAF Champions League, the CAF Super Cup and the MTN 8 cup. He arrived at the Sundowns as a key player but saw his place in Sundowns’ first team cut short in recent years.
Unlike his early days at the club where he was a regular first team player, Laffor has dropped down the pecking order as he continues to strive for a place in Coach Pitso Mosimane’s plan. One of his worst seasons with the club in recent time was the 2017-18 season where he made just 11 league appearances, scoring once in the Sundowns’ 30 league games played. Out of the 2,700 minutes played in the 30 league games, the former LISCR hit-man was able to play just 191 minutes.
However, Laffor has decided to remain silent on his future. He told The Bush Chicken he respects his contract with the club and won’t make an announcement on any move. He said, “Right now, I’m not saying anything. The only thing I can say now is I am Sundowns’ player. If anything else happens, it’ll be up but right now, nothing can be said.â€
His move away from the Sundowns could see him land at the Johannesburg-based South African ABSA Premiership club, Kaizer Chiefs, who are reportedly leading the chase for his signature.
