MONROVIA, Montserrado – The Liberian women’s national football team has moved to camp ahead of an international friendly match against the Guinean side scheduled to take place at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium on Sunday, Nov. 24.
The senior female Lone Star squad was encamped on Wednesday at the newly constructed George Weah Technical Center in Caresburg. A total of 24 players were selected from the team’s women’s division.
The 2019 women’s division most valuable player and highest scorer, Angeline Kieh, leads the list of players selected for the friendly encounter.
Also selected from its star-stud lineup were Lorpu Forkpa of World Girls Football Club, who won the 2019 Women’s Best Goalkeeper title, and Blanco Football Club’s striker Agatha Nimene, who scored 39 goals during 2019 season. Bernice Willie of Senior Professional Football Club and Kebbeh Lamine of Ambassador Football Club were also selected.
The Liberia Football Association announced on Thursday that former player Famatta Dean will serve as interim head coach of the team, assisted by Watanga Football Club’s head coach Arab Fofana and Earth Angels’ manager Jenkins Doe. Doe was recently named best coach in the women’s division.
Meanwhile, LISCR Football Club’s goalkeeping coach, Jerry Bing, has been appointed goalkeeper coach, while Constance Maima Bowman-Permpeh was appointed as caretaker. Princess Gayduo Kennedy was also named administrative manager, while Lydia Boi Grant and Edith Kerwilliams were tapped as medics.
The upcoming match against Guinea will be the team’s first in seven years. Its last international encounter was a friendly match away in Sierra Leone in 2013.
This year’s friendly against Guinea is part of the team’s preparation for the 2020 Africa Women Nations Cup.
