During the 2016 summer transfer window, Liberia international winger Amadaiya Rennie moved to Turkish Super League club Antalyaspor where he eventually became a teammate to four-time African Player of the Year Samuel Eto’o of Cameroon.
The 26-year-old left the Swedish top tier club Hammarby on a free transfer and joined the Turkish club on a two-year deal.
Liberians may have described his transfer to the Antalyaspor as the best during the transfer window, but the former Degerfors IF winger has endured a difficult start to his career in Turkey. Rennie has managed to make just two substitute appearances, while his club has yet to win from their seven league games played so far this season.
The club has managed three draws and suffered four defeats. Their poor start to the league season has left them at the bottom of an eighteen team table with three points, 14 points behind league leaders Istanbul Basaksehir.
Antalyaspor began the league season with a goalless draw at home against Osmanlispor, before suffering a 2-1 defeat away at Alanyaspor on match day two. Two more defeats and they collected their second point of the season after a goalless draw at home against Akhisar Belediyespor on match day five. They were condemned to their fourth defeat of the season with a 3-1 loss to Galatasaray.
Antalyaspor was seconds away from getting their first win of the season on match day seven against Rizespor when they held on to a 1-0 lead until stoppage time. It was another disappointing night for them, as Rizespor grabbed a stoppage time equalizer to share the points.
More frustration lies ahead for Rennie’s side, which travels to play Turkish league defending champions Besiktas on Oct. 23 for their next match.
