Veteran Liberian forward Anthony Snoti Laffor continues to enjoy success at the club level in South Africa with the ABSA Premiership Champions. The Mamelodi Sundowns have been crowned champions of Africa’s premier club competition, the CAF Champions League.
Laffor became the first and only Liberian to win the title after the Sundowns defeated the Egyptian premier league club Zamalek SC on a 3-1 aggregate.
The Sundowns took a giant step towards winning the crown in the first leg that was played on October 15, at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe stadium in Pretoria, South Africa. In that game, the South African side outclassed Zamalek with a 3-0 scoreline that made them the title favorites ahead of the second leg in Egypt.
As expected by the footballing world, the second leg in Egypt was full of fireworks by both teams. After a tough 90 minutes of play, Zamalek won the match by a single goal but bowed on a 3-1 aggregate.
The Sundowns managed to prevent the Egyptians from scoring in the first half but were unable to stop Zamalek from breaking the deadlock in the 64th minute when Nigerian striker Stanely Ohawuchi scored the match’s only goal.
Laffor may have been unfortunate in Europe, but the 30-year-old continues to make his name on the list of Liberia’s greatest footballers. Having won five South African ABSA Premiership titles, Laffor has been named among the top five players to play in the ABSA Premiership.
