Ahead of the 2017 Liberia presidential runoff election, South Africa-based Anthony Snoti Laffor has called on Liberians to vote for the Coalition for Democratic Change that is headed by former Lone Star player George Weah.
Laffor, who plays for the South African ABSA Premiership club Mamelodi Sundowns, used his Facebook account to call on Liberians to campaign for Weah, who he once described as the greatest to come from the African continent.
In his post, Laffor described the Unity Party-led government as having failed to fulfill its promises and blamed the government for the poor state of the health sector.
“Can you please vote CDC in the second round,†he wrote. “This government [Unity Party] made lots of promises and failed to deliver. Continuity is one of the factors that led to our civil war. This government has failed to improve the health sector for which thousands of Liberians died during the Ebola period. [Joseph Nyuma Boakai] told us they squandered our opportunities. If you vote them again, they will do more than that.â€
With no other candidate receiving more than 50 percent of the votes, the National Elections Commission announced that a runoff poll would be held on November 7. Weah and Boakai, who received the two highest votes, will face each other.
