BUCHANAN, Grand Bassa – Grand Bassa’s Superintendent Julia K. Bono has announced that a full-scale compliance audit of the county’s past administration is underway. The audit will focus on the administrative and developmental transactions of the past administration for the past six years.
In a press briefing last week, Bono revealed that all relevant procedures had been satisfied for the immediate commencement of a 90-day audit by the General Auditing Commission. She added that past administration members had been informed and requested to cooperate.
During her induction on May 8, the superintendent promised to audit the past administration to ensure transparency and accountability, which was in line with President Joseph Boakai’s agenda.
She also reassured citizens and past officials of an impartial audit, underscoring the GAC’s credibility and legal independence.
Before the official announcement of the audit, GAC and the new county administration held a meeting in response to the audit request communication, which resulted in the official commissioning of the audit.
“The audit will formally take effect beginning Monday, August 5, 2024, and we want to urge our citizens to remain supportive of good governance and avoid speculations, thus giving the justice system an unhindered space to procedure vibrantly,” Bono said.
The response has been widely positive on several community radio stations in the county. Many citizens have welcomed news of the audit, highlighting its importance to transparency and accountability.
Meanwhile, former Superintendent Janjay Baikpeh gladly welcomed the audit and promised cooperation.
“All that I did in the county was done in line with the Bassa Legislative Caucus and in conformity with the law, so we’re not afraid to face any audits,” Baikpeh said. “If we are called upon, we will show up.”
Daniel Willie, the former assistant superintendent for fiscal affairs, also expressed his willingness to participate in the exercise.
“I agree to be scrutinized because it will unveil the facts as others are thinking that something was not done rightly, but my hands are clean, so I’m not afraid of [an] audit,” Willie said.”
