The 2016 Swedish league ended in disappointment for Liberian international striker, Dioh Williams, whose club, Gefle IF, was relegated from top flight football.

Despite getting a 4-2 win away from home, Gefle finished second from the bottom, out of 16 teams, with 27 points from 30 games. From those games, they collected only six wins, nine draws, and suffered 17 defeats.

Gefle has maintained 12 years at the top level of football since its promotion to the Allsvenskan back in 2004 after finishing second in the Swedish second tier league, the Superettan.

They kicked off the league season on a very disappointing note, winning just twice and drawing once from their first 15 games. They ended the first half of the league at the bottom of the table with four points, but returned with a better performance in the second round, registering seven draws and four wins from fifteen games.

However, prior to the final round of the league, Gefle needed a win and hoped Helsinborg would drop points to Jonkopings Sodra and finish 14^th, but the team’s hopes were crushed, as Helsinborg collected an emphatic 2-0 win.

Speaking to The Bush Chicken after the match, Williams said, “The entire team is disappointed about the way things have gone. For me, I’m really disappointed about the team being relegated. As an individual, I can’t do anything, but to accept the result and move on.”

When asked about his commitment to the club in the Swedish second tier, Williams who scored five times from 22 appearances said, “For now, it is too soon to speak about it, but there are lots of offers from top clubs.”
