Four Top Liberia National Police Officers Dismissed

MONROVIA, Liberia – President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, has dismissed four top officials of the Liberian National Police.

An Executive Mansion release issued on May 1, identified the four officials to be Abraham Kromah, the Deputy Director of Police for Operations, Samuel Nimley, Assistant Director for Intelligence, Phil Tougbey, Assistant Director for Administration and Joseph B. Flomo, Assistant Director for Crimes Services Department who is also Acting Assistant Director of Intelligence.

Sirleaf also directed the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Liberia, Benedict Sannor, to constitute a “Change Management Committee” at the LNP. She called for a change in the management structure at the LNP and more standardized  procedures for promotions.

Pending the recommendation of the “Change Management Committee,” Sirleaf has designated Prince Mulbah, the Chief of Professional Standard Division, to serve as Acting Deputy Director of Police for Operations and Sadatu F.M. Reeves, the current Chief of Gender casino online Affairs, to serve as Acting Assistant Director for Administration.

Sirleaf did not reveal in the press release the reasons for dismissing the four officials. However, it is publicly known that there is discontentment between the officers and the public.

Motorcyclists in Monrovia have had grievances with the dismissed Deputy Director of Police for Operations, Abraham Kromah, because of a number of issues including a motorcycle curfew on major routes after 10 P.M.

According to Kromah, the motorbike curfew was established in response to an escalation in armed robbery throughout Liberia. He said most of this crime was masterminded or aided by motorcyclists.

“The LNP have gathered intelligence and have arrested people on motorbikes who exchanged fire with police,” said Kromah.

The LNP conducted a survey proving motorcyclist’s involvements in most the country’s crimes. Nonetheless, many felt that the curfew was too harsh.

Motorcyclists rejoiced at the pronouncement of Kromah’s dismissal from the LNP. It remains to be seen whether the dismissal of Kromah and his colleagues will improve relations between the LNP and motorcyclists.

In another development, Sirleaf dismissed the Superintendent of Grand Cape Mount County, Imam Mohammed A. Passewe. The Ministry of Justice is investigating a case involving Passewe in the misuse of public funds. Now the Assistant Superintendent for Development, whose name was not mentioned in the release, has been mandated to serve as Acting Superintendent.
