Malaysian based striker Kpah Sherman has begun the 2018 football season in style after scoring on the opening day of the Malaysian Premier League.
The 26-year-old striker registered his name on the scoresheet once to help his club, Malaysia Indian Sport Council-Malaysia Football Association, commonly known as MISC-MIFA, secure a point against league giant, Johor Darul Ta’zim FC II.
Despite playing their first game at home, it was the visitors, Johor, who first got the ball at the back of the net as MISC-MIFA went in search of an equalizer. Malaysian forward Muhd Ahmad sent the visitors ahead with a header from a corner kick in the eighth minute before Sherman got the score leveled 13 minutes later.
The former Black Aces striker beautifully collected a long-range pass from teammate Mugenthirran Ganesen and made his way to Johor’s six-yard box before beating Johor goalkeeper Samuel Somerville with a right-foot strike.
Sherman’s equalizer became the final goal of the match despite more than an hour to play, as the first half ended 1-1. The second half went goalless.
With a game and goal so far to his name, Sherman’s target of 15 to 18 goals in 22 league matches this season appears to be on course.
Sherman recently extended his stay with the Malaysia Premier League club as he seeks to settle in the Asian state. He signed a deal with the club that has tied him down for the rest of the 2018 season. The striker joined the club in June 2017 after the first phase of the league and helped them escape late relegation from the premier league. He scored seven goals and provided three assists in nine games as MISC-MIFA finished just a place above the two relegated teams with 14 points from 22 games in his first season.
