Nimba Begins Recruitment Drive for County Meet

GANTA, Nimba – The technical committee of the Nimba County Sports Association announced that it will start recruiting players for Nimba’s teams in this year’s county meet.

According to the committee report, the tryout process commenced on Monday, September 14, 2015, on the Ganta Sports Field, commonly known as Kumasi Field.

During the first session of the training exercise in Ganta, the head coach of the team, Muta Fofana, said all is set and ready to start the recruitment of players for the county’s team.

“We are very thankful to the administration of Nimba County for providing all of the necessary logistical and technical support for us to carry on this vetting exercise.”

At least 35 players were selected from the nine districts of the county and added to the 25 retained players from the 2013 county meet to undergo a month-long screening process in Ganta. Following the exercise, 35 players will be selected to form part of the team that will represent the county at the 2015 county meet.

Fofana described this year’s vetting and selection process as a very tough one. “All the players we’ve got for the justification are all good players from their respective districts,” he said.

“To carry on this year’s selection of players is going to be a very tough process, but we are committed to making the process as transparent as possible and not to hurt the feelings of the ones who will not be selected at this time. Certainly, we may need to use them someday.”

All counties are said to be currently preparing for the nation’s highest sports event. This year’s county meet is expected to kick-off on November 28, 2015.

The event was not held last year due to the Ebola outbreak in the country that lasted more than a year. With the official declaration of Liberia being free of the virus by the World Health Organization, the Ministry of Youth and Sports is preparing the calendar of event for this year’s county meet festivities.
