UNIFICATION CITY, Margibi – President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf says she plans to dedicate the new airport terminal currently being constructed at Roberts International Airport in December.
Sirleaf made the statement when she addressed the nation on Wednesday, November 22, 2017, on the state-run ELBC Radio. The Liberian leader said her government remains committed to improving the infrastructure of the country.
The construction of the new terminal began last year and it is expected to better accommodate airport users by reducing congestion and bringing in updated facilities as an increasing number of international flights are landing at the airport.
The terminal is being constructed of glass and steel and will include escalators and elevators to aid physically challenged passengers.
The US$50 million project is being financed by a loan from the China Exim Bank and construction will be undertaken by the China Harbour Engineering Company.
Along with the construction of the passenger terminal, a US$30 million rehabilitation of a runway is also underway, having begun in September 2016. That project is funded through loans and other types of financing from the Saudi Fund, the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa, and the Liberian government.
