MONROVIA Montserrado – President George Weah has appointed Dr. Sia Wata Camanor as the chief medical officer of the John F. Kennedy Medical Center, replacing Billy Johnson.
Prior to Camanor’s appointment, she served as a consultant pediatrician at JFK and associate principal investigator for the PREVAIL III Ebola natural history study. The research is examining how Ebola affects the health of survivors and the people they live with.
Camanor was trained at Wits University in Johannesburg, South Africa, where she specialized in pediatrics.
In Liberia, she was one of two pediatricians in the country caring for children with heart diseases. Dr. Roseda Marshall is the other U.S.-trained pediatrician.
Camanor’s appointment as the medical center’s chief medical officer is subject to confirmation by the Senate.
