Anthony Laffor came off the bench to help the Mamelodi Sundowns to a 1-0 win over Bloemfontein Celtic in an Absa Premiership clash at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein on Wednesday evening.
Bloemfontein Celtic, playing at home, fought strongly throughout the first half that ended without any goals.
Laffor replaced South African forward Thambe Zwane in the 60th minute and scored the winning goal eleven minutes later to ease the pressure on the Mamelodi Sundowns.
“I’m delighted that I got on the scoresheet tonight,” Laffor said after the game. “And I’m happy that my goal was an important one. It was a tough match, but the most important thing is that we got the three points.”
Though Laffor has struggled to get into the Sundowns starting eleven, he has been instrumental in most of the team’s glory so far this campaign.
The hard-working attacker came off the bench to score a last-minute winner over Ajax Cape Town in an Absa Premiership in September.
Yesterday’s goal was Laffor’s second league goal after six league appearances this season. The win moves the Sundowns to fifth on the South Africa Absa Premiership log with 13 points from seven games.
