Russian Premier League giant Spartak Moscow has secured the services of young Liberian striker Sylvanus Nimely on a four-and-a-half-year contract.
The 18-year-old put an end to his three-year stay in the Czech Republic to join the 21-time Russian Premier League champion on Feb. 4, the Russian football transfer deadline day.
Nimely, who is the captain of the Liberia under 20 national football team, departed from Liberia First Division team Monrovia Club Breweries in 2014 to join MFK Kravina in the second tier of Czech football, the Czech National Football League. He played with the club’s youth team for a season and was promoted to the senior side.
His work ethic on the senior team made him a target for several clubs in and outside the Czech Republic. However, it was the Russian side that was able to land the signature of the former Club Breweries forward.
His move to Spartak Moscow will see him play for the club’s second team, Spartak Moscow II in the Russian Football National League, the second tier of Russian football.
He’s expected to join his new teammates in Cyprus, where they are holding their training camp ahead of the remaining games in the league season. In 24 games, Spartak has 10 wins, six draws and eight losses. They are currently seated sixth on the league table with 36 points. They will return to league action on March 7 when they travel to 12th place Tyumen.
