LPRC Storage Facilities in Nimba to be Functional Soon

GANTA, Nimba – The managing director of the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company has disclosed plans for the rehabilitation of its storage facilities in Nimba.

During a one-day visit to Nimba over the past weekend, Sumo G. Kupee informed journalists that plans were underway to make the facilities functional again. The facilities were set up by Kupee’s predecessor, T. Nelson Williams, but they have not been functional.

The former Lofa senator told journalists that his visit to Nimba was to examine the company’s facilities and to negotiate with property owners within a 150-foot diameter from the tanks holding the petroleum products.

“It is good that I came [to Ganta while LPRC is] in the process of making decisions,” Kupee said. “I will know what to do because I have gotten a look at the facilities.”

Kupee said the facilities impressed him and that he would do all in his capacity as managing director to have it fully functional. He said they would be a great relief to the northern and southeastern regions of the country and would help address the problem of frequent shortage of petroleum products in these areas.

LPRC is a state-owned entity with the mandate to support the industrialization and socio-economic development of Liberia by producing, refining, storing, supplying, and distributing petroleum and petroleum products throughout the nation.
