Liberia will have no representative in the first round of the 2016 Confederation of African Football Champions League after Nimba United were knocked out by Cameroon’s Union Sportive de Douala in the preliminary round.
Union Sportive de Douala again beat the Liberia Football Association first division champions in the return leg of the CAF Champions League on Feb. 28.
Nimba United was excellent in the encounter but went down 1-0 after failing to make use of the lion’s share of the ball possession they had in the full 90 minutes.
They were beaten 3-1 at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium in Monrovia on Feb. 14 in the first leg of the competition.
The 1-0 result means the Liberian first division champions bowed on a 4-1 aggregate in their debut season of the most prestigious club competition in Africa.
The “Mountaineers” needed to score three times without conceding any goal to progress to the next round of the competition.
Meanwhile, the LFA 2015 knockout Champions, Barrack Young Controller II, will battle Moroccan club Kawkab Athletic Club of Marrakech in the first round of the CAF Confederation Cup.
The match will be played on the weekend of March 11-13 at the Stade de Marrakech with the return leg expected in Monrovia on the weekend of March 18-20, 2016.
The last time the BYCII participated in the competition was back in March 2013 when Tanzanian Club AZAM FC eliminated them after advancing ahead of Johanson of Sierra Leone in the preliminary round.
