Liberian midfielder Theo Weeks continues to enjoy success with the Azerbaijani top flight club, Gabala FK, after scoring his fourth goal in two matches.
Gabala lost 2-1 to the Georgian team Samtredia in the second leg of a first round matchup in the 2016-2017 Europa League competition.
Gabala had won the first leg 5-1 on June 30th and will, therefore advance to the second qualifying round on an aggregate of 6-3.
Samtredia took an early lead in the 14th minute from the spot kick through before Weeks leveled the score for his side in the 42nd minute as the first half finished 1-1.
There were no goals in the early minutes of the second half for both clubs, and Gabala had the hope of returning to Azerbaijan with a point. However, they were denied after Samtredia scored in the stoppage time of the match through the 24-year-old Lasha Shergelashvili, who gave the home side all three points.
Gabala will now face Hungarian top tier club, Magyar Testgyakorlok Kore Budapest Futball Club in the second qualifying round of the 2016-2017 Europa League. The first leg is scheduled for July 14 at the and second leg on July 21.
