MONROVIA, Montserrado – After just five months with Albanian Super Liga team, Tërbuni Pukë, Liberian international defensive midfielder Abel Gebor has sealed an eight-month contract with Indonesia Super League side Persebaya Surebaya, with an option of extension at the end of the 2016 league season.
Following his unveiling on Jan. 28, Gebor told The Bush Chicken that he is happy with the move, and he is ready to meet the expectations.
“I’m really happy to be here. Persebaya Surebaya is an important club, and this is a big challenge for me. There will be a lot of expectations from me, but not pressure,†he said. “We have quality players in the club to win games and do well in the championships. We will try to build a winning team.â€
The former FC Honka player added that he wanted to win trophies in Indonesia.
“I’m happy that Persebaya Surebaya and the coach has confidence in me, and that is an important thing a player should have,†he said. “ I’m glad they have given me this opportunity to play in the league. I’m here to see how Asian leagues are and hopefully I can help the team to win some cup and see where my future lies.â€
Gebor also played one season with FC Honka in the Finland’s top league.
He was called to play for Liberia during the country’s away fixture against Togo on June 14, 2015, in Lome, Togo. He played 20 minutes in the Lone Star’s 2-1 defeat to Togo in the 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
