Attempted Bank Robbery in Buchanan Prompts Arrest of 10

BUCHANAN, Grand Bassa – Police have arrested at least 10 persons in Buchanan in connection to an attempted bank robbery.

The individuals were arrested early Sunday morning at about 2:00 a.m. for allegedly attempting to burglarize Global Bank, armed with a gun. The suspects are in police custody in Buchanan and are undergoing further investigation.

According to police sources, some were arrested within the Tubman Street bank while approaching the vault. The others were arrested outside the bank.

Police received a tip-off about the burglary and barricaded the entire community, making it easier to make the arrest.

A police officer who spoke to The Bush chicken on Monday on condition of anonymity because he was not the official spokesperson said the suspects had been in constant communication about their plan with one of the security guards assigned at the bank since February and the security guard had informed his superiors about the situation.

When the suspects arrived at the bank, the guard immediately sent out an alert, which drew the police to the bank.

Some of the suspects are from the Monrovia metropolitan area while the rest are from Buchanan.

“[Buchanan] is where they attempted to burglarize or arm rob the bank, so I believe they will be investigated and send to court here,” the police source said. “But we are still investigating the case. Until we conclude our investigation, this is what I can say now.”

One of the suspects, who was identified as ‘Z-Man,’ was a resident of Buchanan involved in a business retailing gasoline. He is believed to be the contact person for the robbers in Buchanan. He was sent to Monrovia for further investigation while the rest of the suspects are still in Buchanan.

A gun was retrieved at the residence of ‘Z-Man’ in New Buchanan, prompting the police to also arrest his wife.

The police source said there have been no specific charges filed against the suspects yet.
