MONROVIA, Montserrado – Liberia will take on Djibouti at the Stade du Ville on March 24 in the 2017 African Nations Cup qualifiers.
A win away at Djibouti will put Liberia in a better position in Group A and will serve as a boost for the remaining matches.
It is an opportunity that the Jordan-based central defender Teah Dennis does not want to waste with a loss.
Dennis called the upcoming match a “chance of a lifetime.”
Liberia has not played in the African Cup of Nations Finals since 2002 and Dennis is now desperate for his team to grab a happy ending in Djibouti on Thursday.
He told The Bush Chicken that they should focus on taking Liberia back to the Nations Cup.
“We have lost out in the past qualifiers, and I really don’t want to sit back and say we have thrown it away again. I think we have a chance that we have to prove ourselves and get back to the Nations Cup,” he said.
Dennis added: “[We have] a great squad of players and we’re in great form at the moment. Although, we aren’t underestimating Djibouti, but we are at the top of our game, we have everyone fit, and we need to take the game to them.â€
Meanwhile, Dennis has vowed to fight for his place in Coach Debbah’s starting team to face Djibouti.
Among the 25 players invited, there are three playing the same position as Dennis, and he believes that wearing the armband in the Liberia’s last five matches does not give him a clear chance of making the first eleven.
“I won’t tell you that I have my place on the starting team. The technical staffs invited some other top players in my position. Everybody will have to work harder to convince the coach,†he said “The team isn’t a one-man team. Captaining the recent matches doesn’t mean I must start. We will all have to work harder for the best of Liberia.â€
