Since January, Liberian striker Patrick Ronaldinho Wleh’s transfer from PKNS Football Club to rival Selangor has become a blessing for the club with his consistent scoring in games.
A total of nine goals from ten games for the Malaysian Super League giant has made Wleh one of the best signings in 2016 Malaysian football season.
Wleh’s timely double in Selangor’s weekend Super League victory over Pahang was followed Tuesday by another double in a crucial 4-2 home win over Sawarak in round five of the 2016 Malaysia Super League.
At a jam-packed Sah Alam stadium, Selangor fell behind after Brazilian Juninho fired Sawarak ahead just seven minutes into the match.
Ramachandra Gopinathan leveled the score for Selangor in the 25th minute before Wleh scored with a header to put Selangor ahead.
Both teams were unable to get a goal again by the end of the first half.
Back from recess, Selangor made the score 3-1 in the 56th minute through Wleh, who shot in from the penalty area.
Mohd Azrif Nasrulhaq added Selangor’s fourth of the match in the 66th minute before Brazilian forward Gilmar Filho converted a spot-kick in the 76th minute to reduce the deficit for Sawarak.
Already up 3-1, Selangor controlled much of the possession in the closing stages of the match and prevented Sawarak from scoring again until the sound of the final whistle.
Not only did the goals place Wleh on top of the goal chart with five goals, but it has also pushed Selangor on top of the league with ten points from four games.
Meanwhile, the winning streak of Felda United, the club of Zah Krangar and Francis Forkey Doe, came to an end after a 2-1 defeat to the league defending champions, Johor Darul Ta’zim at the Larkin Stadium.
Felda won its three opening matches and was seated at the top of the table with nine points before the defeat to Johor.
The loss of all three points dropped Felda to third on the league table with nine points, below Selangor and Johor.
