House to Convene Special Session on Missing L$16 Billion

MONROVIA, Montserrado – The House of Representative has said it will convene a special session “in the coming days” to act on issues of national concern, including the allegedly missing L$16 billion.

According to a release from the office of Bhofal Chambers, speaker of the House, the House will resume in line with the constitution.

“We will convene a special session in the coming days to act on pertinent issues of national concern. Issues coming up have attracted legislative [concern]. Therefore, we are returning back to act for the forward [march] of our country,” the release noted.

The legislature adjourned for its annual break last week. Lawmakers were scheduled to return in January 2019. However, the gravity of the allegedly missing money has put pressure on the representatives to return.

The release also noted that the special legislative session will cover the review of key legislation. Lawmakers are also promising “swift and decisive action” over the printed banknotes.
