Liberian striker William Jebor finally scored a goal with his new Saudi Arabian club after several games without action.
Known for scoring hat-tricks, Jebor made a shocking move during the just-ended summer transfer window to join Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr after a successful season in Wydad Casablanca. There, he finished as the highest goal scorer in the Moroccan Botola Pro League, with 19 league goals.
His performance with the Moroccan league giant attracted interest from some European and top African clubs. Jebor became the target of Egyptian Premier League giant Zamalek and French League 1 clubs, Metz and Rennes.
While many Liberians were hoping for the 25-year-old striker to move to France, where he would have played in one of the top six leagues in Europe, he made the lucrative move to the Saudi Arabia Pro League to sign a three-year deal with the Riyadh-based Al Nassr.
Since his move to the Saudi Arabian club, the goal machine found early life difficult as he struggled to get his first goal for the club. After few weeks of preseason training, Jebor joined his new teammates for the 2017 Arab Championship that was hosted in Egypt. Â Al Nassr failed to qualify from the group stage after failing to win in three of their group matches. Jebor did not get a goal in the tournament.
Following their dismissal from the Arab Championship, Nassr began the league with 3-1 win away at Al Faisaly, with Jebor failing to make the matchday squad. However, he made his first league appearance in Nassr’s next game, which resulted in a disappointing 2-2 draw with Al Ittifaq at home. Jebor came off the bench in the 82nd minute to replace Yehya Al Sheri to make his league debut.
Again, he failed to make the starting eleven in Nassr’s third league match away at Al Ahli. With Nassr down by an early goal, Jebor came off the bench to help his side obtain a point away from home. He came on in the 63rd minute for Mohammad Ibrahim and scored in the 84th minute to level the score.
The point gained away at Al Ahli took Al Nassr to the fifth place on the league table with five points from five games. Nassr will go in search of their second win of the new season when they welcome Al Feiha on Friday, September 22.
