Welsh First Division club Flint Town FC has announced the signing of Liberia’s under-20 player, Alieu Sheriff.
Sheriff joined the first division side on loan from Welsh Premier League club, Bangor City, which signed the 20-year-old midfielder from FC United of Manchester from the National League North of England.
A deal to join Flint Town was reached between both clubs immediately after Sheriff’s move to Wales. He will stay with Flint Town until the end of the current league season before joining his parent club, Bangor City, ahead of the 2017-18 season.
Flint welcomed Sheriff to the club via their official website, adding that they are pleased with his addition.
“All at Flint Town United welcome Alieu to the club, and we hope he enjoys his stay with us,†the team wrote.
Sheriff used Facebook to express himself about his move to Wales, writing, “Having faith in God is the best feeling to believe that your goals will always be possible to reach. Experiencing such is the beginning of more great news.â€
Born on September 2, 1997, Sheriff began his career with the under-18 squad of Manchester-based North West Counties Football League First Division club, Cheadle Town Football Club, before joining the under-21 side of Chatterton Football Club.
While at Chatterton, he went on trials with the youth side of English Premier League giant, Manchester City. A deal to join City’s youth team failed to materialize as he went on playing in the lower tier of English football. He signed with FC United of Manchester in the National League North and featured mostly for the under-23 side, where he was spotted by Bangor City Football Club. He made five appearances for FC United of Manchester Under-23 side and scored five goals before moving to Bangor City.
Sheriff made his debut for Liberia’s under-20 team on April 3, 2016, in the first of the 2017 Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations qualifier against the Guinean under-20 team at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium.
He came on as a substitute in the 78th minute to replace LISCR FC midfielder Stephen Seameh as Liberia bowed 2-0 to the visitors.
