Liberians in Malaysia Set for New League Season

MONROVIA, Montserrado – Football fans in Malaysia will again gather at various football stadiums in the country to support their clubs as players kick off the new football league season on Feb. 12.

Four Liberian players are expected to participate in the football campaign. Three will play in the top-tier Super League while one will be in action in the second tier Premier League.

On Feb. 13, the 2014 Malaysia Premier League golden boot winner, Edward Junior Wilson, will head the attack of the new Premier League team Perlis FA, which will be away at Armed Forces AFC. Perlis gained promotion to the Premier League after finishing second in the third tier Malaysia FAM League. Wilson moved to Malaysia in 2014, when he joined Felda United.

Also playing on Feb. 13 is Zah Krangar, who is expected to control the midfield at the Tun Abdul Razak Stadium when his club Felda United welcomes last year’s Malaysia Cup finalist Kedah FA. Felda will desperately want all three points in a quest for revenge against the club that kicked them out of the 2015 Malaysia Cup. Felda finished 10th in the 2015 Malaysia Cup, and they expect to improve this season.

Malaysia football’s new boy Eric Weeks is also expected to be in the lineup as his club Perak FA takes on Kelantan FA at the Perak Stadium. Weeks moved to Malaysia after spending over eight years in Indonesia. During his days in Indonesia, Eric played for five distinguished clubs. He last played for Pusamania Borneo FC before his transfer to Perak.

Striker Patrick Ronaldinho Wleh, who joined the Malaysian Super League giant Selangor FA in the January transfer window, will partner with Argentine Mauro Olivi in Selangor’s front line in their away fixture at Johor Darul Ta’zim.

Wleh has been in top form since his move to Selangor. He was able to score three times in four preseason games. Selangor finished third in the Super League last season and was the defending champion of the Malaysia Cup. They will represent Malaysia in the 2016 Asian Confederation Cup.
