MONROVIA, Montserrado – The Liberia National Police says it has arrested three ex-generals of the defunct Movement for Democracy in Liberia on May 16. They are being accused of mobilizing former combatants in southeastern River Gee.
The LNP said that those arrested were Powell Solo, Emmis Flayah aka Charles Blayeegolay and Augustine Blayee aka Bush Dog. They are currently being detained in River Gee.
Allegedly, the former generals had gone to southeastern River Gee to mobilize without the consent of the national security on the ground.
However, a senior LNP officer who confided in The Bush Chicken disputed casino online the allegations. He said the ex-MODEL generals went to River Gee to discourage former combatants from participating in a crisis taking place in the neighboring Ivory Coast.
MODEL was a rebel group in Liberia that became active in March 2003, launching attacks from Côte d”Ivoire.
The group achieved rapid successes in its war against former Liberian President Charles Taylor. It is believed to have been created by the Ivorian government as a way of staking a claim in Liberian politics during Liberia’s civil war.
Its leader, Thomas Yaya Nimely, served as Liberia”s foreign minister in the transitional government that was appointed on October 14, 2003, following the resignation and exile of Taylor.
MODEL was accused of violating UN sanctions by exporting timber from the regions of southern Liberia that it controls.
