Mark Paye Apologizes for Red Card

MONROVIA, Montserrado – Promising Barrack Young Controller striker Mark Paye has apologized to fans after getting sent-off in his side’s 0-0 draw with LISCR FC in a first division match on Sunday, May 22 at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium.

The 22-year-old striker was given marching orders for a second yellow card offense after a tackle on LISCR’s Sam Jadoe.

Paye, who was cautioned earlier in the game for a needless tackle on Richard Lloyd, left referee Emmanuel Neewon with no option than to show him the exit.

But he apologized to his fans and his teammates for being sent off in the game.

“I want to apologize to my fans for what happened,” Paye said in his statement. “It wasn’t my intention to get a red card. I know they are disappointed, but I want to say sorry to be missing the team’s next game.”

Paye, who is a key member of BYC, will miss his side’s week 12 home match against Nimba United at the North Star Stadium. He has recorded 12 goals already in the league and revealed what he wants to do more to help his team continue winning.

“I pray I come back to help my team. We are playing well this season. With togetherness, we approach every game as if it’s a final. We are seated on top of the league with 30 points. As a team with ambitions, we have to work harder if we are to continue our form until the league ends,” he said.

BYC sits on top of the league with 30 points, six points over second place, FC Fassell.
