Robert Sirleaf Honored in Nimba for Humanitarian Work

GANTA, Nimba – Nimba Superintendent Fong G. Zuagele has honored Robert A. Sirleaf with a gowning ceremony that was well attended by the county’s political elites.

The honoring program, which took place at the Kumasi sports field on Nov. 8, was attended by the Sports Steering Committee Chairman Tomah Seh Floyd and Assistant Superintendent for Development D. Dorr Cooper, among others.

Performing the gowning ceremony on behalf of Nimba citizens, Zuagele said Sirleaf had made numerous humanitarian gestures to the people of Nimba and Liberia at large. He pointed to the construction of a mini sports stadium as one of Sirleaf’s contribution to Nimba.

During the ceremony, Sirleaf was conferred the name Saye Wonkehmen. Zuagele explained that “Saye” is a name that members of the Mano tribe give to the first male child. “Wonkehmen” in Dan (Gio) means one who does especially good things.

The superintendent used the occasion to appeal to Sirleaf on behalf of the people of Nimba to help improve the sports field.

“We the people of Nimba appreciate the facility, as most sporting events in the county are held here; but all we need is to improve the facility further, especially the completion of the pitch fencing,” he said.

For his part, Sirleaf thanked the people of Nimba for the honor bestowed on him and told them that Nimba would always remain his home.

“As far as I am concerned, Nimba County is and will always be my home,” Sirleaf told the happy Nimbaians. “You can rest assured that I will always be available to work with you in developing our county whenever the need arises.”
