Azerbaijani Premier League club Gabala FK has been dealt a severe blow as midfielder Theo Weeks Lewis is expected to be out until the end of November with a broken cuboid.
The Liberian suffered the setback in Gabala’s Europa League clash with French club Saint-Etienne on Oct. 20.
The 26-year-old midfielder, who signed for Gabala on a season loan from Cypriot first division club Ermis Aradippou in the summer, is likely to be out for around two to three weeks after a full medical examination revealed a broken cuboid in his right foot.
Weeks has been one of Gabala’s few success stories this season, after adapting quickly to Azerbaijani football. His absence will be a keen blow to the team that is under pressure to win, after three straight defeats in the Europa League group stage.
Gabala will play Saint-Etienne on Nov. 03, and Lewis has revealed to The Bush Chicken his disappointment in being unable to play at a crucial time.
Weeks said, “It is very disappointing to be out for this time. I want to play to help the club return to continental glory. We have a game against Saint-Etienne this week and we want to get our first three points in the group stage.â€
He said while he was confident of the team winning, he wanted to be a part of it. “Nothing I can do about it now, but hope and pray that I come back and start playing regularly to help my club,†Lewis added.
