Azerbaijan Premier League’s Gabala FK is currently in Hungary for its UEFA Europa League clash against MTK Budapest on Thursday, July 14.
Gabala will face MTK Budapest in the second qualifying round of the 2016-2017 Europa League leg and their Liberian midfielder Theo Weeks has guaranteed that the team is in high spirits and is out for a win.
“The match in Budapest will be extremely tough, but I’m confident that we will go back home with a win,†he said.
Weeks told The Bush Chicken that the Radar, as Gabala is nicknamed, is aiming to qualify for the group stage of the competition.
“We must qualify to be in the group stage, and therefore we are going to fight for it in Hungary,†he said. “This is the Europa League, if you want to go far, you must overcome small and big teams. It is just for us as a team to work together and play with determination. If we are determined, MTK can’t stop us.â€
Further, Weeks said his main focus is not to score but rather to win, adding, “I’m going to the match to help my team win. I might have the chance to score, but it’s not my first priority. I joined the team to help them win and not for personal glory. Scoring without winning isn’t an achievement for me. It will be better I don’t score but help Gabala win.â€
A win away at MTK Budapest will boost Gabala’s chance of entering the third qualifying round ahead of the return leg in Azerbaijan on July 21.
