Women of Ganta Celebrate Flag Day

GANTA, Nimba – Flag Day is celebrated every August 24 in Liberia to commemorate the country’s flag.

The day is usually observed by streets parade, usually by personnel of security institutions including the Armed Forces of Liberia.

Prior to the civil war, schools were very much a part of the process due to an academic calendar that coincided with the holiday. However, as many schools are on their vacation break, students participate in the parades less frequently.

In Ganta, the Ganta Business Women Association filled in the gap and organized a colorful display in the city that drew the attention of the citizens. Several other women groups participated in the celebration, including the women of the local Unity Party chapter in Nimba.
