ACCRA, Ghana – The Ghanaian President, John Dramani Mahama commended President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf at the 47th Economic Community of West African States session, on Tuesday, for her successful fight against Ebola.
A dispatch from the Ghanaian capital said Mahama made the remarks in his opening address at the Accra International Conference Centre.
Mahama also praised the government and people of Liberia for their resilience and determination in rallying behind Sirleaf’s administration to rid their country of Ebola.
The Ghanaian president noted that although challenged by the circumstances in neighbouring Guinea and Sierra Leone, it was vital for the world to stand by Liberia and the region towards building a resilient post-Ebola health system.
Mahama also thanked the international community and other friendly nations for their outpouring support and assistance to the Mano River Region.
In separate remarks, Kadre Desire Quedeago, casino pa natet the Chairman of the ECOWAS Commission and Mohammed Ibn Chambas, the United Nations Secretary General Special Representative for West Africa, also lauded Liberia’s milestone achievement.
However, they cautioned Liberians not to lose sight of the situation in Guinea and Sierra Leone. Recently, there have been new waves of an outbreak of the deadly epidemic in Guinea and Sierra Leone.
Liberia was recently declared an Ebola free nation by the World Health Organization after 42 days of no new cases of the virus.

Thank God for making us Ebola free. I personally take this time to extend thanks and appreciations to Ellen Johnson and all Liberians for jobs well done, doing the Ebola crisis.
But preventive measures must be our obligations.
