Sup’t Zuagele Reveals Cordial Relationship between the Nimba Admin and Legislative Caucus

GANTA, Nimba – Superintendent Fong G. Zuagele said in a statement addressing members of the National Legislature that his administration enjoys a cordial working relationship with the Nimba County Legislative Caucus.

He made the comments at the opening of a five-day retreat held last week in Ganta.

“I want to take this time to inform you that Nimba County is doing very well; the Legislature and executive are working together very well,” he said.

Following Zuagele’s appointment in July 2014, there were several disagreements between his administration and the Nimba legislative caucus.

One of the disagreements was over what lawmakers called unapproved bank withdrawals. The incident led to the subsequent appearance of both Zuagele and former Assistant Superintendent for Development Tiko Yorlay before the House Plenary. The situation lead to Yorlay’s dismissal.

During his opening remarks, Zuagele also called on members of the legislature to consider introducing civic education in the school system. He said it would help the growing population better understand the operations of their government.

“It is good to learn all the mathematics, chemistry, physics and all the science courses; but knowing the system of our government should also be considered very important,” he said.

Zuagele noted that his appeal was in recognition of the growing wave of violence in Nimba and other parts of Liberia. He said if the youth are taught about good governance and how the state of affairs of the country is being conducted, violence would not engulf society.

“I am making this appeal to underscore that mob violence still remains a major challenge to Nimba and Liberia as a whole,” Zuagele added.
