G. W. Harley Hospital Gets 40 Acres of Land for Relocation

SANNIQUELLIE, Nimba – Citizens of Sehkinpah Town in Sanniquellie-Mahn Administrative District have donated 40 acres of land to the George Way Harley Hospital, in an effort to bring relief to the hospital’s long-term quest to relocate.

The brief ceremony was held in Sanniquellie, at which time Harris Nyanyageawon, who is also vying as a representative aspirant of Nimba’s second electoral district, made the former presentation of the deed to the administration of G. W. Harley Hospital in the presence of the Nimba County Health Team.

Harris said the donation of the land was something he had taught off far back and has come to make this a reality.

“The relocation of the hospital is something I have taught of way back because of the closeness to the train tracks,” he said. “I lost my friend at the hospital because of the vibrations from the trains.”

Harris said the relocation of the hospital will decrease the rate of deaths currently experienced at that hospital, adding that “this is something that has been on my mind all through when I was in the United States of America.”

Also present was Gabriel Barron, the commissioner of Sanniquellie-Mahn District, who called on both the County Health Team and the G. W. Harley Hospital’s administration to make speedy the process of relocating the hospital.

In response, both the County Health Team and the hospital’s administrators lauded the “good gesture” of the citizens and thanked Nyanyageawon for his role in acquiring the land for the hospital.

“We call on all Nimbaians to support the relocation process of the hospital because this has been their cry,” added Dr. Collins Boah, head of Nimba’s County Health Team. “Very soon we will be going about [with] the relocation process when the necessary resources are available.”

The G. W. Harley Hospital is the only referral hospital in that part of the county, catering to patients from nearby towns and villages, including Guinea and Ivory Coast.

According to the office of the medical director of the hospital, an estimated 130 surgeries are conducted on a monthly basis.
