Gbehley-Geh Statutory Superintendent to Retire

KARNPLAY, Nimba – The statutory superintendent of Gbehley-Geh Statutory District, D. Bartuah Bartuah, has announced his plans for retirement as he turns 68 years old.

Speaking to the press in Karnplay, Bartuah said he had served the government for 47 years and his age would not permit him to actively function as he did in the past.

Bartuah said he spent his first four years as a police officer, and the remaining as clan chief, paramount chief, district commissioner, and statutory superintendent.

“I deserve now to sit at the back and advice the younger forces to lead us in the right direction,” he said.

As he officially turns 68 on Saturday, February 3, Bartuah said he would be traveling to Monrovia to submit his request for retirement.

Bartuah said it has been his dream to hand in his retirement request should Liberia have a new government.

“Through the entire election process, that was my dream,” he said. “It was my dream to ask the next government to let me retire, and that is it.”

A strong supporter of defeated presidential candidate Joseph N. Boakai, Bartuah said his retirement request is independent of Boakai’s defeat. He added that he would have done similarly if his candidate had won the election.
