Representative Aspirant in Nimba Vows to Trim Lawmakers’ Salary

GANTA, Nimba – A preacher turned politician has promised voters that if he is elected in 2017 to the House of Representatives, he would sponsor a bill to reduce the salaries of lawmakers at the National Legislature.

Roger Domah made the statement when he appeared as a studio guest on the Voice of Gompa’s program, ‘the Forum.’

“When I am elected to the house of parliament, you will hear me calling for the reduction of lawmakers’ salary in this nation. We will champion that,” Domah said.

According to Domah, the huge disparity in the salary made by teachers and what is being made by lawmakers is unrealistic. He said that there was a need for the restructuring the nation’s annual budget so that it can benefit the future of every citizen.

“Well, we have to be sincere and look at the national income,” he said. “If you have teachers making US$100-175 and no teacher making US$500, and those are people who are shaping the lives of our young people for the future?”

“Then you have lawmakers making US$9,000-12,000. That is very much unrealistic; our lawmakers are very much selfish. We need to re-shift the budget of this country so that it can benefit the future of every citizen.” Domah continued.

Domah has vowed to contest the 2017 upcoming elections in Nimba for the seventh electoral district. The seat is currently occupied by Worlea-Saywah Dunah, who is serving a second term as representative of the district.

Domah currently serves as principal for the Ganta United Methodist School.
