Booker Washington Institute to Reintroduce ROTC

KAKATA, Margibi – The Booker Washington Institute wants to reintroduce Reserve Officers Training Corp as a means of promoting good morals, values, discipline and patriotism.

BWI’s Principal Harris Tarnue said by reintroducing ROTC, students would learn courtesy and discipline.

Addressing reporters in Kakata, he said BWI would reintroduce ROTC as a compulsory course for all students beginning in the next academic year.

Tarnue said ROTC was a major course in the school’s curriculum before the civil war.

“For us at BWI, discipline and leadership training is our cornerstone and the reserve officer training corps could help us achieve more in this direction,” he asserted.

Tarnue also noted that the ROTC program would prepare students for the observance of National Flag Day and other future national duties, which would help develop a spirit of nationalism and patriotism.

He disclosed that the administration of BWI was currently holding talks with the authorities of the Ministry of National Defense for logistics and technical support to the program.
