Rep. Koung Expects District One to Receive US$90k in Legislative Earmarks

GANTA, Nimba – Nimba’s district one lawmaker Jeremiah Koung has said his constituents could benefit from US$90,000 in earmarked projects for the upcoming year. Those funds are attached to legislation currently under the consideration by the Liberian Senate.

Koung made the remarks at the formal opening ceremony of the newly constructed Gordoddin Market building in the LPRC Community in Ganta. The project had been earmarked in a legislative act during the 2014/2015 fiscal year and cost US$68,000 to construct.

“What I want to say here is, the market is done; we will be coming here soon with another project from the legislative earmark,” Koung said.

Representatives in the country have proposed allotments for the development of their respective districts for the upcoming fiscal year. Koung estimated that the probability of district one being approved for another earmarked project was “50-50.”

“Presently, [the Senate] is suggesting for lawmakers to do another legislatively earmarked project for their various districts; if this holds, our district will benefit [from] over US$90,000 for another project,” Koung added.
