Anthony Snoti Laffor, a South African-based Liberian who plays for the Mamelodi Sundowns, had a disappointing past week when his club was knocked out of the Confederation of African Football Cup.
Snoti’s club was booted out of the Confederation of African Football Cup by the Ghanaian Premier League club, Medeama Soccer Club. The CAF Cup Tournament is considered the second most elite African club competition.
However, things have changed, for the better. In a twist of fate, the Sundowns have been reinstated in the CAF Champions League, which is the most elite African club competition.
The CAF regulating body ruled that AS Vita of DR Congo, the club that knocked the Sundowns out of the Champions League second round qualifier, fielded an ineligible player in the preliminary rounds.
A release distributed by the CAF stated that the CAF organizing committee for inter-club competitions reviewed a complaint by Stade Malien of Mali regarding the eligibility of the Idrissa Traore, used by AS Vita during the preliminary matches and deemed him ineligible.
The Sundowns lost their tie against AS Vita on away goal rules.
They were later included in the draw conducted in Cairo on May 24. The South African champions were drawn in Group B with Enyimba Football Club of Nigeria, Zamalek of the Egyptian premier league and ES Setif of Algeria League 1.
